Bayshore Breeze Continue to Improve its Green Commitment

Bayshore Breeze - Dunedin, FLBayshore Breeze was one of my favorite events in 2011, and I wanted to revisit the subject after seeing their new website.  With the help of Melinda Hamsher, Certified Green Consultant, this operation stands out as one of the boldest Green operations we have certified in the Green Business League.

While this is the first Green certified gas station in Florida, it has not been the only one that we have worked with to get these facilities making environmental progress. Here are some of the serious improvements for this facility:

  • Double-walled steel petroleum storage tanks with electronic sensors that meet the new EPA and State standards, to assure safe storage and distribution of the petroleum fuels
  •
  • Exterior fueling area state-of-the-art canopy lights, for bright illumination without light pollution and heavy electrical use.
  •
  • Automated exterior light controls.
  •
  • Convenient pump side recycling bins have been positioned near the fuel pumps for customer use.
  •
  • Eco-friendly landscaping using minimal grass areas and drought resistant plants to conserve water usage.
  •
  • Rainwater and A/C condensation collection for irrigation and sidewalk washing.
  •
  • Use of waterless, biodegradable pavement cleaners.
  •
  • Supplemental irrigation using reclaimed water.
  •
  • Bicycle racks to encourage non-motorist visitors.
  •
  • Pet friendly fresh water drinking stations available for our customers pets.
  •
  • We have outside tables and chairs with umbrellas to allow walking pedestrians and others a comfortable area to sit, relax and enjoy drinking or eating food from our grill or market place.
  •
  • Convenient public transportation is accessible at the corner bus stop.
  •
  • Winter season “square foot” rooftop garden.
  •
  • Use of environmentally friendly pesticide and employment of integrated pest management practices.

These are only a few of the Green improvements that we found.  The owners of this establishment have taken steps well beyond nearly everyone's expectations for such a facility.  Even the water (condensation) from the coolers is trapped in a tank for use on the facility.  The insulation and cooling system is extremely well planned.

The residence of the Dunedin and Tampa area has reason to stop by and support this outstanding example of a very Green and very committed store.
