Connecticut received the $3.4 million State Energy Sector Partnership grant last year as part of a nationwide effort to grow industries focusing on environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Through the grant, the state wants to ensure it has enough educated workers to meet the needs of those growing industries.
Raquel Kennedy and Paul Keyes founded Victory Energy Solutions in New Britain to make homes and businesses more energy efficient. Over the past two years, the company grew from two employees to 18 and will hire more as trained workers become available.
The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) has announced that it has launched its newest initiative, the Alpha Program, which funds development and testing of emerging clean energy technologies to establish their technical viability and commercial potential.
Last week, CBIA member Stop & Shop Supermarkets celebrated the dedication of its new 400 kW fuel cell which will provide 95 percent of the electricity for it’s Torrington Store.  The fuel cell was manufactured by UTC Power based in South Windsor, CT and also a CBIA member. The East Torrington Stop & Shop commissioned the fuel cell in June of last year. Since then it has produced over 1.7 million kWh of electricity, Supermarket News reports.
Boston based Veolia Energy North America, a leading operator and developer of sustainable energy systems, announced that SourceOne, its energy management and advisory services subsidiary with offices in Hartford, CT, has been selected to perform energy services on behalf of six Connecticut municipalities: Branford, Durham, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison and Westbrook. The overall goal of this effort is to achieve energy savings of at least 5 percent across all six communities, with an emphasis on projects that involve regional cooperation and savings.
Four next-generation fuel cell-powered hybrid-electric transit buses were introduced today in Hartford, joining an earlier generation bus that began service in 2007. The new buses will be operated by Connecticut Transit (CTTransit) and are equipped with UTC Power fuel cell systems. UTC Power is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
