Philadelphia Green Business Facts:

Green PhiladelphiaThe Philadelphia region is fast becoming a leader in solar energy production. Here in Philadelphia, the Solar City Partnership, a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Energy and the City of Philadelphia, is developing its own solar energy initiatives. Philadelphia’s long-term goal for solar energy is to fully utilize its potential to safely, reliably and cost-effectively displace the use of energy generated by fossil fuels.
Sustainable PhiladelphiaTwo laws were passed in Philadelphia that advance green building practices. The first law requires that all new construction and major renovations of large City government buildings meet Silver Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system of the U.S. Green Building Council. The second requires cool roofs that meet or exceed Energy Star cool roof standards on all new construction in the City. Both of these new laws represent the City’s commitment to promoting low-cost.
Eco PhiladelphiaGreenworkd Philadelphia is an exciting and ambitious plan to transform Philadelphia into the greenest city in the United States of America. This landmark effort draws on the collective talents and expertise of dozens of government departments, nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, utility companies, and the private sector—along with the commitment of people who live and work in Philadelphia.
Going Green PhiladelphiaMany of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods lack adequate tree cover. GreenPlan calls for Philadelphia’s tree canopy to increase to 30 percent in every neighborhood by 2025. To support this goal, Greenworks Philadelphia sets a target of planting 300,000 trees by 2015. It’s an ambitious goal, but a goal we can strive for together as a City.
Green Businesses in PhiladelphiaThe Philadelphia Eagles plan to announce later today a plan to power its Lincoln Financial Field with a combination of onsite wind, solar and dual-fuel generated electricity.
Green Certified PhiladelphiaThe Philadelphia Streets Department is converting 58,000 yellow and green traffic signals and will replace approximately 27,000 red LED lights that have come to the end of their useful life. The project will use approximately $3 million in EECBG funds, matched with $3 million in PECO funding, and will save the city approximately $1 million in electric costs each year.
